In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders, the City of Adrian will be holding City Commission
Governor Whitmer has issued an executive order, effective through April 13, 2020, to suspend all in-person activities that are not necessary to sustain or protect life. The Building/Inspection Division staff will not be able to process applications and perform inspections during this time. However, we understand that some construction activities are urgent, and critical to property preservation, health and safety. If you have need to perform such urgent work, for which a permit and inspection are required, please contact the Building Official, Tony Nicholas by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 517-264-4869. Emails and voicemails will be monitored and responded to in a timely manner. Thank you for your understanding.
The Building Inspection department helps to insure public health and safety as well as provides a safeguard for quality construction of residential and commercial structures in the city.
The building code division issues building permits for new construction and alterations to the interior and exterior of structures. It also reviews site plans and conducts occupancy inspections for new and existing buildings. Zoning enforcement is also conducted through this division of the department. Typical zoning code violations include: derelict and unlicensed autos, debris and garbage accumulation, repairs by unlicensed contractors.
Permits are also issued for electrical, mechanical and plumbing work. Permit applications are available at the Inspection Department, 3rd floor of Adrian City Hall. The Building/Inspection department is available Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. The Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Inspectors are available on the following schedule:
Electrical – Tuesday & Thursday (a.m.)
Mechanical – Tuesday & Thursday (a.m.)
Plumbing – Monday & Friday
